Born and raised in Curaçao I mainly paint from memory. I combine mythical youth figures with icons from the Caribbean with which I make a direct but also indirect reference to my own origin. Locality is an important theme in my work, it gives me guidance in an environment where as an outsider I never feel completely at home.

The last series of works combines bright colors with the two opposites of black and white. With a mother from the Dominican Republic and my father from Curaçao, I always have (had) the feeling that I belong nowhere. This outsiders gaze and duality is the reason for me to search for connections in both the construction of the work and in my own search for completeness.
